Piloncitos is the first form of money to be used before the Spanish came in the island. Also, gold hallow ring and some crude gold necklace were also used as money.

Thank you very much for the info.

http://philmoney.blogspot.com/2008/01/evolution-of-philippine-currency.html

800-1521 thats quite long for a coin to be used in circulation.

Other info. in the web that that piloncitos is used from 1200-1521.

Good to be used in dating in archeological site in philippines, when they found the coin on that site community exist there, since that the coin is inscribe, the power or authority exist in much more wider area or more standard unlike when the time they are using other gold item for barter just a comment.

Its all up to the expert in the philippines to know where are those ancient mints and there source and who made them.

If other know they can post if they like.

http://www.philippinephilatelist.net/mint/survey2.html

There is a gap of coinage in there and there is clipping, they are wieghing something in that time for trade either gold and coinage itself silver, there is a tread somewhere,I will try to find it the meaning or origin of the world sterling, more popular now as sterling silver, just to look for the history of weighing scale, they are trading much more precious that gold and silver and needed a more pricise scale to do that, just an opinion.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mano

I dont know the origin of the word mano like what the coin symbol d means ma meaning first nor the history of mano a filipino traits.
http://books.google.ie/books?id=3PtgPPPpZQ4C&q=sunka+games&dq=sunka+games
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Manila_Mint_Museum,_PI_Piloncitos.jpg
I dont know the back of piloncitos or other inscribe letter found all over the south east asia.
Bot on the picture of the mint museum there is a circle maybe representing something I dont know what cirle represents but there is a program I think in BBC that the symbol zero 0 is an imprint if you take some the program is about something of evulotion of number and also this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samekh
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sans-serif
http://books.google.com/books?id=3PtgPPPpZQ4C&q=sunka+games+achilles&dq=sunka+games+achilles&lr=
Seen some site that this game is popular fron africa to guam I dont know the origin nor the history of this game.
If it is true that they are using gems maybe piloncitos for sunka zero as point of origin ma meaning first stone or mano
since seen that it is seven hole first line 1 to 7 total 28 days just wonder if it will rotate 13 times as for one year used in ancient times or every 3 or 4 monts like planting of rice just posting like a sunka hopping to one hole to another from africa to guam.

There are also coins rarely mentioned in the history books like the seping copper coins of the ifugao's and bontocs which are imitations of spanish reales and trade dollars, and of course the very rare Moslem or Sulu coins of the Sultanate of Sulu.

Welcome!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Thanks FN.

Nice to see the picture of those piloncitos they as dimuinitive the skills and craftmanship to make and inscribe a coin is good.

Viking are also good in making good thin silver coin that there sword is a superb craftsmanship, thats what I seen on the web.

In the past they used coin as a weight I think, either it is a currency or commodity or both.

Very nice site.

And the numismatic writer and all the writer about Philippines history and languages.

Ma meaning first. in baybayin language in visaya dialect baybay as far as I know means seashore or shoreline.

Baybayin in some webpage means to spell, tagalog translated to english to trek,to trace, just like baybayin ang dalampasigan,to trek, stroll along the coastline.

Since its coast line as other Philippines island there is trade when there is trade there is currency,ma meaning first maybe a standard currency starter for the coastline or trading ports, hot spot will be all island with trading ports pre-spanish .
Currency inland or in the center like mountain province I dont know.
