Well ........ that question went over like a loud fart in a church. ....... So how do you get connected into the coin collecting / PM crowd here in RP? How do you find out where and when numismatic events are? Salamat

| I belive there are some events but the most of them are in Manila. As long nobody knows where you are from they are maybe to lazy to tell you where it is. There is nothing in the visayas but if i found enough collectors i will organize it :-)
Where are you from ? | |

| With regard auctions, the only group that hold a regular auctions are the PNAS, the Bayanihan collectors and Bank Note Society of the Phils. Usually on a quarterly at best, basis. check out their site on FB. Re sale events, one was just concluded at Greenhills ( see trail of topic at General discussion). Hope this helps w/ what you need. I am sure the guys in the forum did not mean to be "disrespectful" w/ regard your request, it maybe that most are busy. Cheers | |

Thank you No worries. I know no-one is being disrespectful. I figure that there are so many spammers and scammers that people are leery or tired of trying. Makes it difficult for those of us who are sincere. Has anyone up to speed on the RP numismatic/bullion/pm scene ever considered creating a calendar of events? Maybe a email tree or listserve type of thing? Just thinkin.

| Subject: Auction and Show Schedule - WHY NOT? Fri Oct 14, 2011 9:03 am | |
| The original poster brought up a good question that has been ignored: There really is no central place online where collectors can quickly read the dates of forthcoming auctions and numismatic events. For many years the reasons (or rather, excuses) why there is not a "one stop" listing of all forthcoming auctions are (1) pride, and (2) prejudice.
The clubs, PNAS, BNSP, BICC, and one or two that appear only when they are running an auction don't get along very well as organizations. Sure, some numismatists, myself included, support two or more clubs, but the clubs themselves often view each other as competitors, or worse, as adversaries. Numismatics in our country would grow and prosper with improved cooperation among these groups.
Let us hope that our FN moderator will take up this challenge. Instead of "leaving it to newsgroup members" to post auction dates and locations, or wait for someone to post a list of lots, why not create a rolling list of auction dates and venues, dropping them off the list when they have been run, and adding to the list as soon as they are scheduled.

Kalookan Hi everyone, I am really desperate to answer the needs of everybody but its not really easy to build something that doesn't want to be built. The local clubs have their own respective agendas and their main purpose is not actually to serve us but to make money. Though I was once an officer of PNAS, we had to fight some greedy interest in order to get the club going but in the end those people that we supported turned against us and we had to go our own separate ways because unlike theirs, the club is not our bread and butter coz we have our business, jobs, and occupations. Unknown to many, most of the people gathering at the local auctions are people who just wanted to make a living so anything that they recognize as a threat to their business or any ideas that may hamper their their own interest, will not be entertained and instead rejected. Currently, I am only receiving soft copies from BCCI but the other clubs like PNAS and BNSP either have not published their auction list through emails or they cannot do such procedure, or they do not want to post it here. I have relocated to Nueva Ecija, in my farm, so I cannot anymore pick-up any auction catalog at local coin shops in Manila just like that unlike before. I should have established the online catalogs and other updates months ago but my sudden decision to relocate myself here and the recent typhoons that directly hit my province have really affected my operation and I even lost some very important belongings, my cellphone and my SIM card included. It is not that I am leaving the responsibility to everyone the posting of online catalogs etc. to members but I think the reason why I established this forum is for each and everyone to contribute and make the hobby better and more available to everyone. Aside from the fact, that I have heard some bad people ruining my reputation in the local auction there in Manila. Well, that's how dirty the local numismatic politics here. Lucky for them, I am not there to defend myself. The auction schedule that I set last June was canceled because I had to move here in Nueva Ecija and some consignors lots were not properly received because of my sudden change of address. I am in the process of settling some very personal issues right now so I am really sorry if had disappointed most of you in the process. That will be settled down before the end of this year and my normal operation will be back again by next month and you'll be seeing some updates from time to time. Thanks again.

I would be very interested in knowing the name, address, and any points of contact to "local coin shops" on Luzon. At least that would be a start for me. Salamat PoP

| FN is doing a great job by moderating this newsgroup, and deserves full credit. He helps keep us informed.
This is the most active electronic medium of its kind. The task should not fall on his shoulders alone to keep up with the auctions schedules of groups that are running sales. It is EVERYONE'S responsibility.
Our moderator has it exactly right - politics and lack of cooperation between these organizations is hurting numismatics in our country - and that means it is hurting YOU.
To these clubs: It is time to stop arguing among yourselves, sent aside past differences, and start posting copies of your auction lists to 'filipinonumismatist' well in advance of sale dates.
To the leaders of these organizations: Do you want to be part of the solution or continue to be part of the problem???

Ok, please bear with a dense old man. What I am hearing is that , 1.) There are groups of collectors, but they are too pre-occupied with infighting and scrounging every penny of profit to cooperate and create a published venue. Sounds awful short sighted to me. But what do I know. I just like coins. 2.) There are no established coin/pm shops on Luzon. That actually sounds like one helluva business opportunity to me. Once again I hope I did not just crack another fart at the altar. You know it occurs to me that maybe I should be looking for a Mercury drug for Beano. ;-) Salamat Po PoP
