| The auction held yesterday by BNSP (Bank Note Society of the Philippines) indicated the continuing rise of local coin prices. Most of the pretty coins sold more than their asking ("Tipo") price, because of the eagerness of some bidders. An example was the Cory-Reagan (Pres. Aquino visit to Washington) silver coin which has an asking price of P1500, and really was subject of a bidding battle and was finally sold for P7000, I can only say wow.. I brought home about a dozen silver coins, USPI issues and Philippine modern commemorative 50 Piso silver coins. | |

| 7k for a cory-reagan is actually still pretty cheap considering the coin is very hard to find | |

| I posted the BNSP auction at Kenny Rogers, Quezon Avenue here last Friday (coin prices). To Newbie: kung galing ka sa MRT QAV-EDSA try to walk in Panay Street (peaceful area dito and walking is good for our health) or ride the Tricycle (P20 ang fare). Nagbigay kahapon ng list for the May 29, Sunday auction (babalik) sa Tropical Hut. | |

| Local auctions are varied and very interesting. You may see a lot of collectible items, even the PNAS (Philippine Numismatist and Antiques Society) which I expected to be auctioning only coins and its related items, regularly include other collectibles. With regards to bullion, it depends on you perception. For example, very common pieces (like the 1944 and 1945 coins, half a billion pieces minted by the USA) have low asking (Tipo) prices and sometimes even below its bullion price (even computing for its pure silver content only). This is because you can only attract buyers of this particular coins if they are very beautiful (like UNC, BU or Graded) and others want to dispose their holdings which are only Fine, Very Fine and Extra Fine.. To Newbie: the National Book Store area is regularly patrolled by police officers, you will notice a mobile car parked at its vicinity most of the time, so there are less criminals there (during daytime ha, I am not sure at night)... | |
