De Jesus Variety Store C.M. Recto

I went to Avenida last week and fromt he LRT I saw that the building ( CM Recto near corner Legarda/Mendiola) wherein the De Jesus Variety Store has been housed for, i guess 50- 60+ years was being torn down.

Another Manila Landmark and Institution has left us.

Just to share I bought my first stamp in that store when i was in grade2 or 3 !!!, that's ages ago...

Rey De Jesus who's been active in coins auctions has been managing the said store. I hope we can get an update w/ regards where he'll have his business now.
I would appreciate an update on this.

well during early 1980's. i deal with his tall young son. it's been 29 years. so where can we visit them?. the son must be 50 to 60 years old range. ha ha time run so fast. i am retiring too. only coin hobby make me alive now.

You're right, he is the one running the business now. I think he's named Rey.
His age siguro naman is early 50's...haha. I saw him last at the Greenhills antiques fair last Sept. of 2011.

last sunday, june 24, rey de jesus was at the bnsp auction in tropical hut, quezon city and i remember asking him sometime ago if he has plans of opening another store but he said not now and in the meantime he will be attending auctions and if you want you can try to contact him..

That is a big surprise for me, the building torn down...
aside from being a UE graduate which is just beside the his store
I also bought my first 1908 Phil Island one peso coin from his store, way back when it was still in the p200 range and that started me on my coin colection

there is a scheduled auction on sunday, september 9, 2012 and i am quite sure that mr. rey de jesus and other regular attendees will be there, so do not miss this event..
