| Hi guys!
I've been collecting coins lately, i came across this oddly printed 5 piso coin. What i suspect is that it's fake, judging by the improper imprints. I personally haven't read or heard any news that fake coins were release for 2009 (see image below), so i can't officially say that its IS fake. Or maybe, I just might be wrong. I really need your second opinion on this guys, and if you heard anything relative to this. Thanks in advance!
Image is too big, so i posted a link instead: = SEE IMAGE HERE =

i'm not sure. have you tried using a magnet on it? so far i have never heard of a fake 5 peso coin that will not stick to a magnet.

| not sure if there are fake 5 peso coins but i can't imagine anyone trying to fake them. I would assume that it cost more to make for it to be close to the original | |

| @richardthebrave Nope they both aren't attracted to magnets, but by looking closely, you can definitely see a big difference with the imprints. In comparison, the other doesn't even have its rim clearly embossed. @ericgo Yes, its really does baffles me too. Thus, I'm hesitant to officially declare this one as fake, since i haven't heard anything about it or any proof for that matter. Left Side: I assume that its an Original BSP release. Right side: Fake? It has an uneven imprints and it has a smaller logo detailed at its reverse side. | |

| Hi 25cents, The coin is not a fake but a possible imperfection. Based on my experience and researches, we first encountered these fake 5-piso and 10-piso coins as change from 711 convenience stores. These coins were produced by Chinese syndicates who operating in the city of Valenzuela where they have minting machines. The syndicate was caught by the NBI and the raid was even featured in the show IMBESTIGADOR. I am really puzzled why did this syndicate produced such counterfeit coins when in fact the production cost for the counterfeit coins was more expensive than its face value. One indication that we noticed from the counterfeit coins was most of them were dated 2002 and rarely that you'll see any other years, none were produced beyond that year. The legends were bigger and Aguinaldo's face have missing eyes. The 10-piso meanwhile is magnetic and the outer core is nickel plated. | |

| Wow! Thanks you so much Admin! Now I could official say thats its not fake. And thanks for the info and the image, I'll try to look out for 1 of this. A specimen of this, would be a another great addition to my collection. Really appreciate it. But Is it safe for me to conclude that BSP used a different minting template (esp the reverse side) for this imperfect coin's imprint? I notice that it has a smaller BSP logo and the text is more elongated and narrow. I'm new in collecting and I would love to hear more on your expert opinion on what might have caused such improper printing. Thanks in advance! | |

| Nice coin picture.
Im no expert 25cent your coin might be worn die due to frequent used of die the stamp or imprint goes much lesser or not clear as a result some of the letters or images in the filed of the coin is not clear,or it might be block, filled or grease struck or die that other foreign material came in contact with the die that effect the stamping, some coins that others can notice when hunting coins in circulation that these are one of the most common thing of oddities and curiosity found in circulation sometimes you can see some line in scallop circle missing sometimes letters and images are double or doubling or doubled died no other cases or standard use for Philippine coin for double die.
The more is missing the better much better if it is in high grade or just came out in the mint or rolls,we have only few years more to hunt until old coins will be withdrawn, good find though.
Just posting.
for fake 5 piso and 10 piso coins FN is right.

Mining is more expensive than just pulling metal in form of coins in circulation and making fake coins 5-10 peso, more like a double edge sword they can melt coins and make a profit and release fake coins to be circulated and also make a profit just like a covering for there act and not noticing that legal coins where melted, economic saboteur.
Good Philippine is overhauling our coinage.

| Unknown to many collectors, BSP made changes on the 5-piso coin dies on several occasions. This is probably because the die wears out every now and then. But replacing the die made some changes on the designs to the coins. Sometimes there were evident errors in the mint that were corrected without even notifying the public. It was evident with the 1997 5-piso where there are 2 varieties. The 1st variety is where the "1" and the "7" in the date are both the same in shape. The other variety is where the "1" and the "7" are totally different and distinct in form. In the case of your coin, the die must have worn out making the strike softer in appearance which is apparent with the details and the legend. Thanks again. | |

| Thank you FN for the info.
BSP mint coins by millions die mostly last up to 200,00-300,000 pcs in bronze coin depending on how hard the metal or how soft or how many times they tooled and repair the die on the master die where they copy the other die for production dont know.
master die and the one used in stamping is quite expensive the less they used the cheaper the expense dont know how it wil effect the stamping images in the coin, further research and studies maybe expert in this forum can share there thoughts and finds.
