Book on Philippine coins 1900 to present

Hi, would anyone know where I can buy a book on Philippine coins covering 1900 to present? showing minted quantity, years mint and other details to guide a collector on which is which.

"Coins Medals and Tokens of the Philippines" by Aldo P. Basso 2nd edition is a must have. It's an old book 1971 i think but it has everything you need to know about philippine coins from spanish to uspi and so on. it has mintages, mint marks etc. the pricing is outdated of course. But for coins for the 1970s and earlier you'll have to rely on krause.

There's a copy at the dlsu taft library you can have it photocopied. Jun Cuartero also sells a copy at Viramall. His stall is at the second floor of the lifestyle-furniture area i think. I visited his stall one time and saw a copy of the book. Jun wasn't there but the book sells for P500-700 i think. Im not sure if its aan original print though. I only have the 1st edition but i see no need to upgrade it to the 2nd. Minimal changes.

just an update friends... got my aldo basso book last sunday, it really was informative, had all the interesting info on Philippine coins up to year 1971!

Now my only prob is to find a book that covers 1972 to present! That's 38 years!

Anyone know any printed book on this? Thanks!

You may buy copies of PNAS Monograph or BNSP issues and BSP Barillas. But they are expensive and scarce.

Philippine numismatics has been suffering from a scarcity of new publications for decades. This is truly unfortunate, and should be corrected with sound research, good writing, and a publisher who isn't in it for the money. On this last point, some of the most successful books in recent memory have been self-published by the authors or numismatic groups, rather than the big publishing houses.

In addition to "Filipino Numismatist's" excellent suggestions, Neil Shafer in the US has begun writing articles on Guerrilla notes for Bank Note Reporter. He is one of the most respected and prolific writers on Philippine numismatics, on both notes and coins. It is accurate to say that his articles are a serious update on his books on notes written over 30 years ago. Only Guerrilla notes distributed in a few provinces are being printed from what I have heard.

Stay tuned, because another publication on PhilNum will be appearing in the coming months.
