Cartwheel Effect

Some people would like to know what is the "Cartwheel Effect". I can not fully explain it but, I just show my friends some uncirculated coins still in their mint state and I showed them cleaned coins which were polished. It is very easy to see that the glint or shine of the Brilliant Uncirculated coins in Mint State condition is far more beautiful than those that were cleaned and polished coins. The light when striking the coins give out different effects, that is all I can tell and they would agree to it. One more thing, I noticed that the older coins that were well preserved kept their Cartwheel Effect while the polished coins loses their shine. I hope somebody can fully define the Cartwheel Effect. Thanks.

I did look at the recommended web site and read fully the explanation on the Cartwheel Effect and found the site is really informative. Now I know that it is better to use the term Mint Shine. I also solve one of my long time wonder of how come only one side of the coin retains the Cartwheel Effect or Mint Shine (it was fully explained on the web site). I have several Uncirculated coins and only one side has the Cartwheel Effect while the other side has only a beautiful shine. Thanks for the info.
