| I have been looking closely to my Commonwealth Coins and I noticed that most of them have very weak images of the "sea lion" on the Coat of Arms (even also on my uncirculated coins). Are there any coins out there with very distinguishable images of the "sea lion"? I found out that some coins have very weak strikes on the year mark but there are other coins with very prominent year struck on it. Can anybody please answer? Thanks, everybody.. | |

| Coins struck in the Manila Mint usually have weak letters on the scroll. The 1921-M fifty centavos is perhaps one of the more imperfect coin struck in Manila. Usually, this coin can be found with weak dates. Most collectors associate this with grading but they should not because it was already inherent with the coin's production. When the mint changed the design in 1937, the defects become obvious as almost all of the coins produced have either weak dates or mint marks. The dies used were already flawed that is why the coins were mostly imperfect. Do not associate this with the coin's grading.  | |

| I understand the problem with Manila Mint Coins, although I find some of it with very good struck years. I always see 1920(M) and 1921(M) coins but with defective year marks (almost as if very lightly struck) but there beautiful coins of this issue with good struck year marks. What I am referring to are the other issues by US Mints, like Denver and San Francisco. Are there coins with very distinguishable "sea lions" in the Coat of Arms (like in the 1944 and 1945 10c, 20c and 50c)? Thanks again.. | |
